Waterproof Menu Printing
Paper menus don't survive a busy dining room. Between condensation rings, dropped sauces, wet hands, and the pool deck at
two in the afternoon, a printed paper menu starts looking tired within weeks, and looking tired is the one thing a menu can't
afford to do.
Menu Designs prints fully waterproof menus on synthetic paper that will not tear, wrinkle, or stain. Wipe them down, get them
wet, put them outside. They keep working. We've been manufacturing for restaurants, hotels, resorts, and country clubs from
our Saint Augustine, Florida plant since 1980, and waterproof menu printing is one of the fastest-growing things we do.

Why Restaurants Switch to Waterproof Menus

Most operators come to us after doing the math on reprints. A paper menu that gets replaced every four to six weeks costs
more over a year than a waterproof menu that lasts a full season or longer — and it never looks as good in between.
The other reason is simpler: some environments just destroy paper. Poolside service, patio dining, oyster bars, breweries,
outdoor events, anywhere with humidity or heavy handling. If you're laminating menus in-house to keep up, waterproof
printing does the job properly and looks like it was meant to be that way.
What Are Waterproof Menus Made Of?
Our waterproof menus are printed on synthetic stock, a plastic-based material rather than a paper-based one. Because
there are no paper fibers to absorb liquid or pull apart, the sheet is genuinely waterproof rather than water-resistant. It's ripproof, spill-proof, and washable.
We print these in-house on our own digital press, which means we control the color, the turnaround, and the quality from start to finish. Synthetic stock is available in several thicknesses depending on how substantial you want the menu to feel in a guest's hand, thinner for a lightweight insert, heavier for a standalone menu with no cover.
For applications that need something more rigid than a printed sheet, we also offer Sintra PVC menus, which are completely waterproof and actually float, a genuinely useful property at a swim-up bar and Bullet Board, a laminated resin board originally engineered for commercial countertops.
Waterproof Menus vs. Laminated Menus
Laminated Menus
Lamination seals a paper menu inside a plastic pouch. It helps, but the paper is still in there. Once the seal is nicked at a corner or along an edge and it always is. Liquid gets underneath, the paper wicks it up, and the menu delaminates and clouds.
A Waterproof Synthetic Menus
No paper inside it to protect. There's no seal to fail, no edge to peel, and no cloudy layer between your guest and your design. It also prints sharper, since the ink sits on a consistent surface instead of showing
through a plastic film.

Sizes, Thicknesses, and Finishing
We print waterproof menus in every standard size we stock Letter, Legal, Half Letter, Slim, Large Slim, and Oversized —plus fully custom sizes. If your layout is an unusual shape, we'll build to it.
Finishing options include rounded corners, hole punching, grommets, and coil binding for multi-page waterproof menus.
Waterproof sheets also work as inserts inside any of our custom menu covers, which is how most of our hotel and country club customers order them, a branded cover on the outside, a menu on the inside that survives the season.
Minimum order is 25 pieces. Rush production is available if you're up against an opening date.

Frequently Asked Questions — Waterproof Menus
Are your waterproof menus actually waterproof, or just water-resistant?
Fully waterproof. Our synthetic menu printing is done on a plastic-based material with no paper fibers in it, so there is nothing
to absorb liquid. The menus are rip-proof, waterproof, and spill-proof, and they can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
What is the difference between a waterproof menu and a laminated menu?
A laminated menu is a paper menu sealed inside a plastic pouch. Once that seal is nicked, liquid gets in and the paper inside
is ruined. A waterproof synthetic menu has no paper inside it at all, so there is no seal to fail and no clouding or peeling over
time.
How long do waterproof menus last?
Far longer than paper. Most customers replace waterproof menus when the menu content changes rather than because the
menu itself has worn out. With normal handling and a wipe-down with a clean damp cloth, they hold up through a full season
of heavy use and often much longer.
Can you print waterproof menus for outdoor and pool areas?
Yes — this is one of the most common reasons customers come to us. For pool decks, patios, and swim-up bars we
recommend our waterproof synthetic menus, our Sintra PVC menus, which are fully waterproof and float, or Bullet Board for a
rigid, wood-look board built to handle sun and rain.
What is the minimum order for waterproof menu printing?
Our minimum order is 25 pieces. For a single prototype before committing to a full run, there is a $150 prototype charge.
Volume discounts apply on larger orders.
Can waterproof menus be used inside a menu cover?
Yes, and many of our hotel, resort, and country club customers order them exactly that way — a branded cover on the outside
with waterproof printed inserts inside. We can build the cover around whatever paper size you're printing.
